How it Came to Be...
Two years ago, I got it in my head to create a brand-new cactus shape.
I’ve always loved our signature saguaro cactus design—but as a proud Texan, something felt like it was missing from our cacti family.
Prickly pear cactus are the ones I see every day here. They grow wild on roadsides, trails, and backyards across the Southwest. I wanted to bring that spirit to life in clay.
Original Prototype
Truth bomb: I’m not a classically trained ceramicist. I didn’t go to art school.
I actually have degrees in Broadcasting and Communications—definitely not “Cactus Design 101” 😅
But what I lacked in formal training, I made up for in grit.
I taught myself everything I know about ceramics. So I rolled out the slabs, hand-formed each pad, and slowly pieced together my first prototype. And you know what...She was ADORABLE.
How do I make more?
The challenge centered around the time it took to sculpt. There was simply no way I could keep up with demand. So this little dream sat quietly on a shelf, waiting for her moment.
Until now.
After months of searching—and a lot of trial and error—I finally found a master sculptor and manufacturing partner right here in the U.S. I never imagined I could make this happen without countless overseas trips and major outside backing.
But I did.
This project has been completely self-funded from day one—no investors, no big team—just me, some serious grit, and a love for what I do.
And I’m incredibly proud to say that this little cactus is now 100% designed, sculpted, manufactured, and painted in the United States.
It’s been a labor of love from start to finish—and she’s finally ready to meet the world.
The Process - Behind the Scenes
From the design sketches, to initial sculpt (balloon animal anyone), to careful placement of the light holes, to the notch for the cord - every detail was thoughtfully poured over and celebrated!
